Double win at FAB 2023 Awards

Posted on 1 December 2023

Awarding organisations Active IQ and their parent company NCFE, were both recognised at the FAB 2023 Awards, celebrating success across the education and skills sector in the UK.

2023 FAB Awards Social Responsibility of the Year Active IQ won the award for Social Responsibility Initiative of the Year for its Healthy People, Healthy Planet sustainability strategy. Healthy People, Healthy Planet outlines an ambitious plan to become a more sustainable business and a carbon-neutral organisation by 2024. Active IQ has made significant progress, reducing its estimated CO2 emissions from 207.46 tonnes in 2019 to 142.66 tonnes in 2022, reflecting its dedication to adopting a more sustainable and responsible approach.

Dave Erasmus, Chairman of carbon management platform, Our Carbon, commented: “Active IQ's nomination for the FAB Awards is a rightful recognition of their deep commitment to carbon responsibility, far beyond mere lip service. “Their approach is considered, consistent and clear and focused on deep cultural change in sustainability. At Our Carbon, we take pride in having equipped Active IQ with an approach grounded in transparency and accuracy, guiding their initial steps on this meaningful shift. Their progress serves as an inspiring example for others to follow.”

NCFE apprentice Christopher Ademola, a 16-year-old Adult Care Worker Level 2 apprentice studying through Salford City College, was named Apprentice of Year thanks to his exceptional skills and behaviours in helping to improve the lives of those he cares for.

After deciding to look for an apprenticeship after being inspired by his mum to work in care services, Christopher was keen to gain experience in a range of services so he could understand different patient needs and how each service works; spending time in areas such as dementia care, mental health, disabilities, autism and more.

Leaving a strong impression on these placements, two managers immediately offered him permanent placements, due to his dedication and excellent work standards. It’s this passion that, earlier in the year, saw Christopher named Apprentice of the Year at NCFE’s own Aspiration Awards.

Speaking at the time, he said: “I’ve got big plans. To me, there's nothing more satisfying or rewarding than helping people to regain or maintain their ability to perform an activity. It’s liberating and it’s life changing.”
