Every month we will cast a spotlight on a member of Active IQ staff to give you a little insight into their role, share their advice and reveal some little-known facts…. We are delighted to launch this feature with our first interview, Jenny Patrickson, Managing Director of Active IQ
Q. Tell us about your role at Active IQ, how long have you worked here and what you most enjoy?
A. I’m Managing Director of Active IQ and have been with the organisation for just over three years, having joined it in 2014 as Commercial Director. I most enjoy knowing that our qualifications have the potential to positively influence people’s lives – not only our graduates, but also the lives of all the individuals that our qualified health and fitness professionals go on to change for the better in terms of health and wellness.
Q What advice can you give people who aspire to be where you are?
A. Gain experience as well as relevant qualifications. Qualifications will give you the knowledge and skills that you need and the confidence to know that you are on the right track, but nothing beats experience and having the opportunity to apply what you have learnt or are learning. If you can, find a mentor to be there to support you when required. That could be your manager, but equally it could be a friend or another colleague – it’s always helpful to be able to bounce ideas off someone you trust and it’s also invaluable to be able to ask for advice and feedback.
Q. What did you want to be when you were growing up?
A. A professional dancer (which I was for a while) having trained since the age of 4 in ballet, tap and modern dance.
Q. Tell us something we would never guess about you?
A. I once appeared on the 80s TV programme “Tomorrow’s World” – something to do with the benefits of blow-up surfboards for air travel (for those of you young enough to remember that ‘gadgets of the future’ programme)!
Q. What is the best advice you have ever been given?
A. Find the best people to work with and truly value them.
Q. Which exercise do you most enjoy?
A. Outdoor running in the fresh air.
Q. Any hidden talents?
A. I’m still able to tap dance!
Q. How would people describe you in three words?
A. Competitive, passionate and determined!
