Many of our centres who are involved in the provision of training funded by the SFA will already be aware of the unprecedented changes to the Adult Education Budget, and how it will be allocated from August this year and beyond.

Active IQ is keen to ensure our centres have as much information and understanding of this new landscape as possible, in order to ensure you are able to plan the delivery of your chosen qualifications and programmes as effectively as possible. Below are some brief descriptions of the different categories of funding that will attract funding going forward, plus the list of Active IQ qualifications that have been confirmed within these categories (NB this does not include the full list of Level 3 and above qualifications that are available for Advanced Learner Loans – this loan catalogue can be found here.

Below is a table showing the types of qualifications that fall under the “legal entitlement” for funding. They are defined as either “core qualifications” (e.g. GCSEs and Tech Certs/Levels), or “non-core” (other qualifications such as a learner’s first full Level 2 or Level 3 qualification which have satisfied criteria prescribed by the SFA, such as minimum size). Immediately following this is the list of Active IQ qualifications which have met the criteria, and will be funded as such for the funding year 16-17.

Legal Entitlements for 2016 to 2017 – Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications (Active IQ):

The final table shows the Active IQ qualifications which have successfully met the SFA’s criteria for “Local Flexibility” funding. This form of funding will be increasingly rolled out to the English regions, fulfilling this government’s aim of having a more devolved funding model, where local commissioners (be that local councils or LEPs or similar) can make decisions about how funding for training and qualifications is decided based on their local economic needs. Training providers registered with the SFA will be able to approach their local commissioners and request particular qualifications and/or training be funded, based on their preference where it aligns to the commissioner’s plans for that region. This particular funding stream is in its early days, and will be more clearly articulated as more regions establish their commissioning structures from 2017:
