Active IQ has a range of provisions at Level 4. For providers wishing to deliver any of these courses of study it is useful to appreciate the nature of qualifications at this level and the characteristic outcomes that identify them as Level 4. Such information will provide a guide as to the difficulty of the qualification and is best provided by the so-called level descriptors.

Level descriptors indicate the intellectual skills and attributes required to achieve a qualification, the nature of the tasks and procedures that the learner will have to perform and the degree of autonomy and responsibility that they will need to exercise. The table below defines what the learner needs to be able to achieve at Level 4:
