Introduction

A vocationally related qualification (VRQ), at Level 3 on the National Qualifications Framework and allows access onto the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) at Level 3. This qualification is designed to provide candidates with the knowledge to ensure safe and effective exercise programming for clients with a number of medical conditions and common reasons for referral onto a community-based exercise referral scheme.

Entry requirements

Candidates must hold a Level 3 Certificate in Advanced Fitness Instructing Gym or Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training or equivalent.

Qualification structure

This qualification comprises three mandatory units:

  • Unit 1 – Principles of Physical Activity and Exercise Referral (D/501/8377)
  • Unit 2 – Medical Conditions, Treatment and Safe and Effective Exercise Programming (H/501/8378)
  • Unit 3 – Professional Practice and Processes in Exercise Referral (K/501/8379)

Internally assessed:

  • Worksheets
  • Case study

Externally assessed:

  • A 90 minute theory paper consisting of 40 multiple choice questions.
