23 Aug 2011Active IQ launches new qualification which could produce Sports Massage professionals for the Olympic and Paralympic Games

Active IQ has launched its new Level 4 Certificate in Sports Massage (soft tissue therapy). The new level 4 qualification marks an exciting opportunity for the industry and indeed learners because it’s one of the highest quality vocational sports massage therapy qualifications in the country, which has been recognised by the Sports Remedial Therapy Council, the UK’s regulator of Sports Therapy Industry. This Active IQ Qualification exceeds all the NOS (National Occupational Standards) which were stipulated by the British Olympic Committee (BOC) to work with athletes at the 2012 Olympics and is accepted by the Sports Therapy Organisation as meeting its requirements for membership.

The qualification ensures a level 4 approach to learning and purposely avoids lots of theoretical work such as producing a thesis, dissertation and the research requirements of a Level 5 qualification. By removing these aspects from the qualification more time can be spent on developing and learning the "real-life" skills and knowledge required of a practicing Sports Massage Therapist.

Once qualified learners will have sufficient knowledge and skills to identify the signs, symptoms and causes of over 50 of the most common injuries and conditions which affect both the athletes and the general public alike. They will be able to provide effective treatments using all the commonly recognised neuromuscular and soft tissue mobilisation techniques and prescribe a range of exercise modalities to help support a client’s recovery.
